Zechariah 4:5 – Jehovah Comes, Jesus Comes
Zechariah 4:4 His feet will stand in that day on the Mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east; and the Mount of Olives will be split in two, from east to west, making a very great valley. Half of the mountain will move toward the north, and half of it toward the south.
Zechariah 4:5 You shall flee by the valley of my mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach to Azel; yes, you shall flee, just like you fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Yahweh my God will come, and all the holy ones with you. – World English.
The above has been compared with sciptures such Mark 13:24-27; Matthew 24:29-31; Luke 21:25-28; Daniel 7:13-14; Revelation 19:11-16, and thus it is thought this should prove that Jehovah is Jesus, since both Jehovah and Jesus are spoken of as coming.
In Isaiah 66:1, we read: “Thus says Yahweh, heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool.”
The word feet is sometimes used in Scripture, as in this text, to represent permanent establishment, or rest. Stephen after quoting the above (Acts 7:49), adds the words: “What is the place of my rest” – residence?
Jehovah used his foot-stool before sin entered, but since then he has removed his presence and allowed sin to reign and Satan to be “The prince (ruler) of this world.” (John 14:30.) In a typical way he established his presence among the Israelites in the Tabernacle and Temple, and in a higher and better sense, his presence has been in the Gospel Church as in a shifting tent or Tabernacle, all through the Gospel Age, but soon the Temple glory, or his presence in the Glorified Church – head and body – will be manifested to the world. (Romans 8:19) And in that glorious reign of the Christ complete, typified by Solomon’s peaceful reign, and under the shadow of that glorious temple, of which that made with hands was a type, all the families of the earth shall be blessed (Genesis 28:14), and brought into complete harmony with God. Then the knowledge of Jehovah will fill the whole earth (Isaiah 11:9; Habakkuk 2:14); and all sin and every opponent of right having been destroyed (Psalm 37:10), all the ends of the earth (people) shall remember and turn to Jehovah (Psalm 22:27), and the glory of Jehovah shall fill the whole earth. – Isaiah 6:3
The unipersonal God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob speaks and performs His works through His son (Deuteronomy 18:18,19; John 3:34; 5:19; 6:38; 7:16,28,29;8:28,38,40; 12:29; 14:10; 17:8; Acts 3:13-26; 1 Corinthians 8:6; Hebrews 1:1,2), just as he spoke and performed His work through various ones in the Old Testament. For instance, we read that it was Moses who led/brought Israel out of Egypt, and yet also that is was Jehovah who led/brought Israel out of Egypt. – Exodus 3:8,10,12:51; 15:22; 1 Samuel 12:6; Psalm 77:20; Hosea 12:13; Acts 7:34-36,40; 13:17.
Thus, through the reign of his Anointed (Jesus), Jehovah will prepare and cleanse his foot-stool to place his feet, his abiding presence, there, as he declares through the prophet Isaiah (6:13) – “I will make the place of my feet glorious.”
In harmony with this same thought we find in Zechariah 14:3-5, a description of when and how Jehovah will establish his feet, or residence. This Scripture, which actually applies to the Father — Jehovah – is often misapplied to our Lord Jesus; and while Jesus and his Church will doubtless be the active agents of Jehovah in subduing all things (Philippians 3:21), yet the fact remains, that the work here mentioned is Jehovah’s, and the Hebrew text leaves no question about it.
This is in harmony with 1 Corinthians 8:6, which tells us that there one God, the God and Father of Jesus (2 Corinthians 1:3; Ephesians 1:3), who is the source of all, and that there is one lord through whom are all. Yahweh comes to judge by means of His Son, and also associated with His Son during the world’s coming day of judgment are the saints. – Psalm 96:13; 98:9; Daniel 7:22; Luke 1:32,35;John 5:22,23; Acts 10:42; 17:31; Romans 2:16; 1 Corinthians 4:5; 6:2;Ephesians 1:17-22; Revelation 20:4.
