Izaija 52:8

Isaiah 52:8 – My People Shall Know My Name  -  Moj će narod znati moje ime

 

Isaiah 52:5 Now therefore, what do I here, says Yahweh, seeing that my people is taken away for nothing? those who rule over them do howl, says Yahweh, and my name continually all the day is blasphemed.
Isaiah 52:6 Therefore my people shall know my name: therefore [they shall know] in that day that I am he who does speak; behold, it is I.

The claim is being made this is a prophecy of the Son’s first coming, and we have been asked to to take note that Yahweh said that the people of Israel shall know his name. Thus we have been asked: “Why would God say that if the Israelites already knew his name Yahweh?” The answer supplied is: “Because God would be known with his other name, ‘JESUS’”.

First, we do not agree that the prophecy is directly concerning the Son’s first coming. We believe that the prophecy is concerning the time of Jesus’ second appearing, when there will be “times of restoration of all things, whereof God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets that have been from ancient times.” (Acts 3:21) Pointing to the Millennial reign of Christ, verses 13- 15 picture the high exaltation and honor of Yahweh’s servant Son, our Lord Jesus:

Isaiah 52:13 Behold, my servant shall deal wisely, he shall be exalted and lifted up, and shall be very high.
Isaiah 52:14 Like as many were astonished at you (his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men),
Isaiah 52:15 so shall he sprinkle many nations; kings shall shut their mouths at him: for that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they understand.

It is regarding the time when “the earth shall be full of the knowledge of Yahweh, as the waters cover the sea.” (Isaiah 11:9) It will be at the time that Isaiah prophesied, stating: “Holy, holy, holy, is Yahweh of Hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.” (Isaiah 6:3) It will be at that time when Yahweh’s “judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.” (Isaiah 26:9) At that time, Isaiah’s prophecy will be fulfilled:

Isaiah 2:2 It shall happen in the latter days, that the mountain of Yahweh’s house shall be established on the top of the mountains, And shall be raised above the hills; And all nations shall flow to it.
Isaiah 2:3 Many peoples shall go and say, “Come, let’s go up to the mountain of Yahweh, To the house of the God of Jacob; And he will teach us of his ways, And we will walk in his paths. For out of Zion the law shall go forth, And the word of Yahweh from Jerusalem.              Isaiah 2:4 He will judge between the nations, And will decide concerning many peoples; And they shall beat their swords into plowshares, And their spears into pruning-hooks. Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, Neither shall they learn war any more.

Nevertheless, Jesus’ first coming was announced by John the Baptist as though these blessing were to about come true. John, however, preached of repentance toward Yahweh under the Law Covenant, for the Law and Prophets were until John the Baptist. (Matthew 11:13; Luke 16:16) John’s ministry, however, did not return Israel back to God, since Israel as a whole did not accept the ministry of John. Nor were those who repented actually being justified by the law, but rather it provided a demonstration  “that a man is not justified by the works of the law but through the faith of Jesus Christ.” — Galatians 2:16.

The ministry of Jesus called for faith in Jesus as the one promised in the prophets who was to have the words of Yahweh in his mouth. (Deuteronomy 18:15-19) Israel, however, rejected their Messiah, so that Jesus said to them just before his death: “you will not see me from now on, until you will say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of [Yahweh]” (Matthew 23:39 — Holy Name restored, see:Psalm 113:2; 118:26)  By this statement, Jesus shows that he was not Yahweh, but the came in the name of Yahweh; and the also pointed to a time to come when Israel, as a whole, would recognize this. Thus, there is a second coming of Jesus in which Isaiah 52 will be completely fulfilled.

However, those who put their faith in Jesus are said to be tasting or partaking of the things of the “age to come”. (Hebrews 6:5) God “calls the things that are not, as though they were.” (Romans 4:17) For those who believe in this age, it is reckoned as though they were already in the age to come, and thus that the old things have passed away. (2 Corinthians 5:17; Revelation 21:1-5) Therefore, many of the scriptures pertaining that “age to come” have already begun to have fulfillment in the new creatures in Christ beforehand — before the day of the full fulfillment. But those being selected as the seed of Abraham in this age are only the first fruits of God’s new creation. (James 1:18) Once Satan is abyssed, then the seed of Abraham can proceed with the blessing of all the families of earth, and it will be then that Israel will recognize Jesus as the one who was sent in the name of Yahweh, thereby also recognizing the name of the one who sent Jesus.

Why would Yahweh say that His people would know His name, if they already knew his name? One needs to take into account that knowing the word itself that represents God’s name is not what is being referred to. Yahweh stated: “my name continually all the day is blasphemed.” — spoken of evilly, in a bad way. The word “name” can simply refer to a word, but it also can mean more than the just the word that is applied to a person. It can refer to the character of that person, his reputation.  It is in a similar sense that “a good name is to be chosen rather than great riches.” (Proverbs 22:1) The success of Yahweh’s work is to Him “for a name” an honor. (Isaiah 55:13) Additionally, to the obedient Yahweh promises an “everlasting name.” (Isaiah 56:5) “The name of the wicked will rot.” (Proverbs 10:7) Does this mean that the word used to distinguish the person would rot? No. It is the reputation of the person bearing the name that actually rots, not the word used to represent the name. Likewise, to know the name of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob means to know the true personage that is represented by that name, to know the good represented in His name, as opposed to the blasphemies often attributed to God. There is no reason to assume that Yahweh was speaking about another alleged name of Himself, such as trinitarians would like for us to believe that “Jesus” is another name for Yahweh, and then that Jesus is one of three persons all of whom they believe to be Yahweh. Jesus is not Yahweh, but he was sent by Yahweh.
